Winning a Business Analyst Scholarship

1 minute read

In 2018/19 I won a scholarship to study data analysis on Udacity sponsored by the Bertelsmann media group. If you don’t know Udacity, it offers online courses in programming, data science, artificial intelligence and more. It is especially known for offering courses made in collaboration with companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon and Uber. Udacity is also known for having big scholarship challenges, where students are given the chance to win free partecipation in one of their Nanodegress (with 6+ months of coursework). Having an interested in Data Science I was immediately attracted to the opportunity to study for free on their platform, so I participated in one of these challenges.

In the first phase 15’000 people were selected to partecipate in the Scholarship Challenge, which included following courses and submitting assignments in: Descriptive Statistics, Python, SQL. For phase two only 1’500 people had to be chosen, and thanks to my hard work I was one of them so I went on to study for the Business Analyst Nanodegree, for about 6 months.

The Nanodegree’s syllabys included: Problem Solving with Analytics, Data Wrangling with SQL, Data Visualization with Tableau, Classification Models, A/B Testing, Time Series Forecasting, Segmentation and Clustering.

It was a great experience with high level lessons made by Bertelsmann professionals and a lot of practical projects with personalized feedback.

I’m not sure if I would pay to partecipate in a Udacity Nanodegree but I will definitely apply to other Scholarships if I have the chance to do so.
